Abuse Reporting
Who reports?
The person receiving the information. YOU are, by law, required to report any suspected abuse within 24 hours of receiving the information.
What if you don't believe there is abuse?
Use your best judgment. It is not your responsibility to investigate the claim. You cannot be liable for reporting, even if the claim is not substantiated, You ARE liable if you do not report abuse, especially when abuse continues to occur.
Who do I report to?
DCFS, the School Resource Office, or other law officer.
Reporting to administration or counseling DOES NOT relieve you from liability.
What do I report?
The facts / what you know. Answer the questions to the best of your knowledge. Ask whoever gave you the information to stay with you while you call, but don't force them.
Documentation
You should document ALL abuse reports on the "MyStudent" program. Be objective ("I was told..") in your documentation, never subjective ("I think..."). Remember to document time and date you reported the incident and when you learned about the incident and when you learned about the abuse. Please forward your documentation to administration and counseling.
We are willing to help!
If you are uncomfortable reporting, please come down and let us help. We can initiate the call and help you document.
